Last Saturday, Mister Mango and I met up mid-day to go to the Hingham Farmers Market. We picked up some peache and cucumbers and then headed up the road a bit for lunch at Caffe Tosca. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat out on the patio with most of the other patrons. Caffe Tosca only offers their lunch menu seasonally. Caffe Tosca is the sister restaurant of the more upscale Tosca, which is directly across the street. Caffe Tosca serves country Italian food. Their lunch menu contains a selection of soups, salads, pastas, sandwiches and a few entrees.
Once we were seated, they brought out a basket of some great Fireking Bakery bread and some olive oil for dipping. I was tempted to order the gazpacho but I ended up ordering the Shrimp Salad sandwich with Asiago fries and MrMango ordered the Smokehouse Chicken Panini with arugula salad. The smokehouse chicken panini was served on sourdough bread with Taleggio cheese and wild mushrooms. The shrimp salad was brought out to the table as an open-faced sandwich. MrMango rated his sandwich as “good, but not the best ever. “ My shrimp salad was satisfying but not amongst my favorite sandwiches ever, either. The fries were our favorite part of the meal. These weren’t bar-food cheese fries. They were lightly sprinkled with grated Asiago cheese. Excellent! I am starting to crave them as I write this.
